Kubuntu Netbook Remix is Dead! Long Live Kubuntu Netbook Remix!

Para la próxima versión de Kubuntu, Maverick 10.10, el equipo de desarrollo a cargo ha decidido no lanzar una nueva versión separada de Kubuntu Netbook Remix.

Por que ? Porque el equipo de desarrollo de Kubuntu entiende que para entonces tendrá una versión de Kubuntu optimizada para netbooks.

Scott, en su blog, dijo:

"Lo que hemos hecho es agregar Plasma Netbook a la ISO standard de Kubuntu desktop y también agregamos algunas detecciones mágicas para seleccionar Desktop o Netbook en base al tamaño de la pantalla en la primer corrida. Una vez que esté corriendo, puedes cambiar tu entorno de trabajo preferido en Plasma a través de la opción en Systemsettings".

Por qué ésto ?

1. Eficiencia – Cada ISO necesita pruebas y éstas necesitan testers y hay algunos pocos para ello. Cada ISO consume espacio, posee seeds a ser mantenidas, etc. Es decir, toma trabajo. Uno menos es mucho trabajo menos.
2. ShipIt – A partir de 10.10, el CD de Kubuntu que podrás obtener a través de ShipIt también soportará Netbooks.
3. Evitar disolución de marca – Volvemos a “Kubuntu”, no a qué Kubuntu quieres (excepto para Kubuntu Mobile).

Para el cierre, Scott también mencionó:

"Probamos esto para Maverick Alpha 2 y parece trabajar razonablemente bien, así que seguiremos adelante. Hay algunas pocas "arrugas" aún para "planchar" pero tenemos disponible un montón de tiempo de desarrollo para resolverlas."
